Church of England Apologises to Darwin

The Church of England is to issue a formal apology to Charles Darwin for rejecting his theory of evolution almost 150 years ago.  I’m kind of impressed by this, actually.  It probably won’t help the radicals come to grips with their prejudice, but it’s a nice gesture that might help to push things back towards sanity.  Any shift in that direction, however slight, is a welcome change these days.

Opposition to evolutionary theories is still “a litmus test of faithfulness” for some Christian movements, the Church will admit. It will say that such attitudes owe much to a fear of perceived threats to Christianity.

Huh, ya think?

We have talked about the Church of England before.  They seem remarkably progressive for a church….

Single mom vigilante

A single mother of eight kids(!) attacked a man who tried to abduct her daughter. She laid into him with a metal pipe, and beat him up pretty bad it seems, he’s still in the hospital. I’m trying mightily to feel sorry for him, but it’s just not happening.

It wasn’t a completely one-sided thing, apparently he also stabbed her a few times with a knife during the melee.

Anyway, it’s really a moot point for anybody that ever had kids, or thought about it.  I think that laying a pounding on someone trying to do that to your kid would be extraordinarily satisfying.  I just hope they don’t throw the book at her for it.

Personally, I would have done the same thing, and not felt one bit bad about it.

Detroit is tough

How tough? Thought you would never ask….

Even their mayor has violated his parole more than once. That’s how tough.

It’s almost comedic that this guy was the most charismatic, successful politician in the whole city, (he did win after all) and he currently has multiple (!) legal cases on the go.

Not that we can throw too many stones here in Ottawa however….

What is it about mayors these days? Who elects these guys?

Contrast

This is a study in contrast.  Let’s see if you can spot it.

This morning as I got a coffee to take back to my desk to sip at while I worked in air conditioned comfort, I was mildy annoyed to see that they were out of lids at the coffee shop.  I took a lid that didn’t fit and had to be careful not to spill all the way back to my desk.

This woman was out for a nice donkey ride with her niece, got attacked by a lion, and managed to fight it off with a machete without receiving any injury.  She got the strength to fight the lion out of concern for her niece.

Did you spot it?
