A neat post on a blog called How to in 7 Seconds about how to drink vodka without getting drunk. I can’t tell you if this works or not since it all sounds like a recipe for disaster to me, but it still may be helpful to some. Some salient points:
One hour before the party
1. Eat a couple of boiled potatoes.
2. Drinks one or two raw eggs.
3. Drink one or two table-spoons of olive oil. Sunflower oil will also do.
Thus it’s guaranteed that at the Russian party you will stay sober for at least one bottle of vodka. I’m not kidding. Raw eggs are the most important part of Russian pre-party preparations.
At the party
1. If you start drinking vodka – drink only vodka. No beer or wine. No water or juice. Carbonated drinks are taboo.
2. Drink vodka only in shots. Never sip.
Yikes, that’s probably partying a bit harder than I would be comfortable with. The main point of eating a lot of food while drinking is certainly a good idea no matter what you are having though. The Russian party etiquette parts are really interesting though, and it would be a huge amount of fun to have a traditional Russian party night chez Vallentyne’s sometime. Anybody in for some straight vodka shots?
Hm, this also reminds me of a recent post about Russians and vodka…
When I read about all these stuffs you have to eat, I think that there is a greater tendency to get ill from eating these russian foods than having shots of vodka! Btw thnx for the link to my blog. 🙂
I’m in for the Russian party….but will not do the egg thing…that would make me ralph for sure…and only if Kyle promises to carry me home ;0)
